Is there anything more American than apple pie? A unique twist on this staple dessert is a must try.

Ingredients

Apples 4
Lemon juice 1/4 Teaspoon (to sprinkle inside)
Pie crust 1 , cut into strips (Pre
Milk 2 Tablespoon
Turbinado sugar 1 Tablespoon (Optional)
For filling
Apples 2
Granulated sugar 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Brown sugar 2 Tablespoon
Flour 2 Tablespoon
Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
Freshly ground nutmeg 1/8 Teaspoon
Juice of lemon 1/2

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Take 4 apples and slice off the top and cut/dig out the inside, be careful to not puncture the skin. To prevent the inside of the apple from browning squeeze lemon juice over top of each apple.

3. Peel and seed the other two apples and dice into small pieces.

MAKING

4. In a bowl, add diced apples along with the sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon nutmeg, and the juice of 1/2 a lemon. Stir to combine.

5. Spoon the diced apple mixture into the hollowed apple bowl, fill to the top.

6. On floured surface, slice pie crust into 1/4 inch strips that is 4 inches long. Take 6 strips and make a basket weave pattern then place onto the apple. Using a knife trim off any excess dough. Repeat the process for the remaining apples.

7. Brush milk over the crust and sprinkle a little turbinado sugar over top.

8. Into 8x8-inch baking dish, place the apples and cover with aluminum foil.

9. Bake apples for 20 minutes, then remove the aluminum foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes or until the crust has become golden brown.

10. Remove from oven and allow apples to cool for 15 minutes.

SERVING

11. Serve and enjoy!
