Sheera or Sheero is a very simple Semolina dessert made by cooking it in Ghee, Milk and sugar. It's also known as Sooji Halwa. You can also make this vegan by using a vegetable based Ghee and a Milk substitute.
Ghee | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Mixed nuts | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Raisins | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Semolina | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Crushed cardamom | 1 Pinch | |
Saffron strands | 1 Pinch | |
Mango puree | 2 Cup (32 tbs) | |
Milk | 2 Cup (32 tbs) | |
Sugar | 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) | |
Crushed pistachios | To Taste | |
Fresh mango cubes | To Taste |
MAKING:
1. Heat the ghee and saute the nuts and raisins and keep them aside
2. In the ghee add the semolina, add the crushed cardamom and saffron strands
3. Add the mango puree and milk
4. Cook for 5 - 10 mins
5. Add the sugar and cook for another 2 - 3 mins
6. Add the nuts and raisins back in reserving a few for garnish
SERVING:
7. Sprinkle the crushed pistachios in a cake tin and add the semolina and allow to cool before you turn it out and serve. Garnish with the reserved nuts and mango cubes
