Siegerrebe

Siegerrebe, also known by the brand names Sieger, Scheu 7957, AZ 7957 and Alzev 7957, is a German white wine, which actually means “Victory vine” in German. Usually a May wine, this wine is an elegant variety of wine that has hues of honey blonde to light straw which usually appears yellow-green to golden-yellow in color. This variety of wine has a layered aroma which is a blend of rose petals, spices and grapefruit with hints of tangerine and pink grapefruit. Similar to the muscat in its characteristics, this wine is generally used for blending purpose. Though the ‘must weight’ of the wine is higher than normal, this varietal of grape tends to be low in the acidic content and its flavor is close to that of Gewurztraminer.

Origin of Siegerrebe Wine

Sieger was first created in the early 20th century, in the year 1929 to be more precise, by the German Viticulturist Dr. Georg Scheu. However, the actual cultivation started in the year 1958 in Germany, where it was done on a larger scale with the purpose of producing the wine. By 1986, around 259 hectares were planted with this varietal of grape in Germany and partly in England.
