Mississippi Mud Pie

 

Mississippi Mud Pie is a very delicious dessert pie that is made by using gooey chocolate. As the name suggests, this dessert originated in Mississippi, a popular state of United States. This complete chocolate-based dessert contains flaky chocolate on the top and thick chocolate sauce in the middle. Usually served with plain chilled ice cream, this pie is widely appreciated all across the globe for the rich use of chocolate. These pies are mainly of two types, i.e. single crust pies and double crust pies.

 

Origin of Mississippi Mud Pie

The origin of this pie can be traced back to the period of World War II. The invention of this chocolaty dessert is usually associated with Southern United States cuisine. The term “Mississippi mud” actually implies a solid cake that appears quite similar to the banks of the river in Mississippi. As per the records, this dessert was made during World War II by a home cook while using some of the simplest household ingredients. Traditionally, the dish was made by simple household ingredients that were easily available in the nearest grocery store.

 

Mississippi Mud Pie Recipe- Ingredients

Mississippi mud pie is typically made by using some simple ingredients. However, the list of ingredients used for this dish can be divided into two parts, viz ingredients for the crust and ingredients for the stuffing. The ingredients required for making the crust are plain flour, caster sugar, salt, chilled unsalted butter, egg yolk and chilled water. Apart from these, few other things needed to make the filling are plain chocolate, cocoa powder, instant espresso coffee powder, eggs, cater sugar, soured cream, golden syrup and vanilla extract or essence. Lastly, some white or milk or plain chocolate is also used to decorate the pies on the top.

 

Mississippi Mud Pie Recipe- Preparation

This pie is essentially a baked dessert that is prepared in two parts, vuiz making the crust and the filling. First of all, the crust ingredients are mixed together in a bowl to make perfect dough, which is then rolled to make a thin film to cover the baking tray. Simultaneously, the rest of the ingredients are melted in a separate bowl to make the filling, which is placed in the baking tray lined with the thick dough film. The tray is placed in the lower third of an oven for about 35 to 40 minutes.

 

Serving Mississippi Mud Pie

Mississippi Mud Pie is a very interesting dessert that is mostly served warm or just after taking out of the oven. While serving this pie, it is very important to check the center as it should be well moist and soft. It is usually served with golden syrup, which is poured on the top of the baked pie.
