Dr. Pepper Glazed Hot Wings

A meal I made a few weeks ago for my wife and me. I documented the entire process with my iPhone to see how a instructional recipe video (mainly slides) would turn out. Hope you enjoy, and you have got to make this! The wings were "Off The Hook", if I do say so myself. I got the recipe from Dr. Pepper.com, courtesy of Guy Fieri. It's a keeper in my recipe box :D The portobello mushrooms where tossed with extra virgin olive oil, and Emeril's essence seasoning and grilled on indirect heat, and OMG, they are soooo good! Salad goes very well with this combo! Enjoy! BTW, the left over glaze, freezes well.

Ingredients

For the glaze
Soft drink 24 Ounce (dr pepper soft drink used)
Garlic cloves 4
Paprika 1 Tablespoon
Tomato paste 2 Tablespoon
Apple cider vinegar 1 Tablespoon
Ground mustard 1/2 Teaspoon
Light brown sugar 2/3 Cup (10.67 tbs)
Kosher salt 1 Teaspoon
Cayenne 1 Pinch
Corn starch 1 Tablespoon , dissolved in 1/4 cup water
For the wings
Chicken wings 1 Pound
Pepper To Taste
Kosher salt To Taste
Olive oil 2 Tablespoon

Directions

Getting Ready

1. For the glaze: In a pan, pour dr. pepper. Add in chopped garlic, paprika, ground mustard, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, light brown sugar, kosher salt and paprika. Taste and add cayenne as per the level of spice you require.

2. Let the glaze come to a boil. Now gradually pour in the cornstarch and water mixxture and allow to simmer. You will notice that the glaze has started thickening.

3. For the wings: In a bowl, put the wings and sprinkle with pepper, kosher salt and paprika. Mix to coat well.

4. Add the olive oil and toss well to coat evenly.

5. Prepare the grill.

MAKING

6. Place the wings on direct heat and cook while basting with the prepared glaze.

SERVING

7. Serve hot with salad and grilled portabello slices. This dish can also be served as an appetizer.
