Betty demonstrates how to make Strawberries with Bourbon Sauce for Derby Day in Kentucky (May 7, 2016). This is a simple and dramatic dessert for a Derby dinner.

Fresh strawberries 1 Quart , washed (drained, capped, and cut in quarters)
Whole almonds 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) , roast (salted or unsalted)
White sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Butter 3 Tablespoon
Heavy cream 1/3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
Bourbon whisky 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Mint sprig 1 (for garnish)

Place prepared strawberries and almonds in a large serving bowl.

In a heavy skillet, heat the sugar until it caramelizes (turns into a light brown-colored liquid).

Add butter and stir until melted. Remove from heat.

Add cream and stir until smooth.

Stir in bourbon until smooth. Cool to room temperature.

Pour over strawberries and almonds.

Garnish with a sprig of mint. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and chill until serving time.
