In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make White Cheddar Mornay Sauce/Spread. This sauce is great over an open-faced sandwich, such as a Hot Brown Sandwich or in the form of a spread for a deli sandwich.
Butter | 4 Tablespoon | |
All purpose flour | 4 Tablespoon | |
Milk | 2 Cup (32 tbs) (for spread, use 4 cups for lighter sauce) | |
White cheddar cheese | 1 Cup (16 tbs) , shredded (1/2 | |
Salt and pepper | To Taste |
MAKING
1. Place a medium saucepan on medium low flame and melt butter in it.
2. Gradually add flour, stir constantly until combined to form roux. Stir and cook roux for two minutes.
3. Pour milk and cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes or until the milk begins to simmer.
4. Slowly add white cheddar cheese and cook until the mixture thickens.
5. Add salt and pepper to taste. Let sauce sit at room temperature or refrigerate it until ready to serve.
SERVING
6. Serve white cheddar Mornay sauce with sandwich.
TIPS
You can place leftover sauce in refrigerator for later use.
