Using dates helps sweeten the sauce but the vinegar helps keep the tang for a tasty barbecue sauce.
Onion | 1 Small , finely chopped | |
Dates | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) , chopped pitted (Medjool) | |
Tomato puree | 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs) (strained) | |
Cider vinegar | 3 Tablespoon | |
Worcestershire sauce | 2 Teaspoon | |
Hot pepper sauce | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Dried thyme | 1 Teaspoon (Optional) | |
Chili powder | 1 Teaspoon (Optional) |
MAKING
1. In blender, add onion, dates, tomato puree, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and hot pepper sauce. Blend until smooth.
2. Place a sauce pan on heat, and pour mixture in it. Bring it to boil.
3. Reduce heat, and simmer for about 5 minutes or until thickened.
SERVING
4. Sprinkle thyme and chilli powder, if desired and serve with grilled chicken.
