Scalloped Cabbage With Nutmeg Sauce

A lip smacking Scalloped Cabbage With Nutmeg Sauce makes a wonderful main dish. Once made, its a guaranteed repeat! For the optimum flavor, ensure you have a nice fresh cabbage!


Cabbage 1 Small
Butter 2 Tablespoon
Flour 2 Tablespoon
Milk 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs)
Salt 1/2 Teaspoon
Pepper 1 Dash
Nutmeg To Taste
Parmesan cheese 6 Tablespoon
Lemon juice 1 Tablespoon
Cracker crumbs 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs)



1) Grease a baking dish.


2) Steam the cabbage in a small amount of boiling-salted water, till crisp-tender. Drain.

3) In a saucepan, heat butter and stir in the flour.

4) Remove from the heat and slowly add and blend in the milk.

5) Mix in the salt, pepper, and 1 /4 teaspoon nutmeg.

6) Allow to simmer till thick. Continue stirring.

7) Add in 4 tablespoons cheese and stir till melted.

8) Take off from the heat and stir in the lemon juice.

9) Place 1/2 of the cabbage in a baking dish.

10) Add in 1/2 of the crumbs.

11) Add in the remaining cabbage.

12) Add in the remaining crumbs.

13) Add the sauce over the crumbs and top with the remaining cheese.

14) Sprinkle with nutmeg.

15) Place in the oven and bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes or till the crumbs brown.


16) Serve hot with a side of freshly baked bread.
