Cheesy Onion Grilled Sandwich by Tarla Dalal

A filling of sauteed vegetables flavored with tomato, chili sauce and cheese the sumptuous cheesy onion grilled sandwich is an ideal breakfast offering.


Whole wheat bread slice 8
Butter 1 Tablespoon (as needed for brushing)
For filling
Grated processed cheese 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Finely chopped spring onion whites 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Butter 1 Tablespoon
Finely chopped green chili 2 Teaspoon
Finely chopped cabbage 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Grated carrot 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Finely chopped spring onion greens 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Chili sauce 2 Teaspoon
Tomato ketchup 1 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste



For Filling:

1. In a non-stick pan, heat butter and sauté spring onion whites and green chili over medium flame for 1-2 minutes.

2. Add cabbage, carrots and spring onion greens. Stir and cook for another 1 minute.

3. Stir in chili sauce, tomato ketchup, salt and cook for 1 minute.

4. Add cheese, switch off the flame and mix well until the cheese melts. Allow the mixture to cool then divide it into 4 equal portions.

For Sandwich:

5. Place 2 whole wheat bread slices on a flat, dry surface and butter them lightly. Place a portion of prepared filling on top of each bread slice.

6. Butter 2 more bread slices and place them on the filling with the buttered side facing downwards.

7. Brush some more butter on top and grill in a greased griller for 5-7 minutes or until the sandwiches are brown and crisp. Make the other 2 sandwiches in the same way.


8. Serve immediately with tomato ketchup.
