Flambéed Plum Perfection

Brittany Allyn, host of Savor the Flavors demonstrates how to flambe' using her recipe for Plum Perfection.


Plum 2 , sliced (about 4 oz. each)
Butter 1 Tablespoon
Sugar 2 Teaspoon
Freshly grated nutmeg 1 Pinch
Chopped walnuts 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Slivovitz 1 Tablespoon (plum brandy)
Vanilla bean ice cream 2 Cup (32 tbs) (as needed)



1. Into serving bowls, scoop ice cream and place in freezer.

2. In a small skillet over medium heat, toast the walnuts for 3-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.


3. Melt butter in skillet, add plum slices and sprinkle sugar over the top.

4. Lightly grate the nutmeg over the top. Stir and saute for about 3 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved and the plums are warm and releasing their juices.

5. Add the walnuts back to the pan.

6. Remove the pan from the heat, pour the slivovitz into the pan, return it to the heat and flambé or ignite with a long handled lighter.


7. Once the flame has burned off the alcohol, spoon the mixture over the top of the ice cream.


8. Serve immediately and enjoy!
