Apple Pie

Happy 2012 from ABCcubed! We are starting this brand-new year with a brand-new episode of AKwan's Kitchen. In the Season 3 premiere, we are welcoming the year 2012 by making an All-American Classic--the apple pie! Thanks to our guests for making special appearances!

Ingredients

Flour 2 1/2 Cup (40 tbs)
Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Apples 3 Medium
Pear 1 Medium
Cinnamon powder 1 Teaspoon
Salt 1 Pinch
Shortening/Oil 2 Tablespoon
Pie crust 2 Medium (9 inch crust)

Directions

GETTING READY

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

2. DOUGH: In a bowl mix flour, sugar, salt with oil/shortening.

3. Add in some water if mixture gets too dry. Knead to dough.

4. Roll dough flat with rolling pin. Make sure to flour up the rolling surface.

5. Cut flattened dough in about 2″ wide strips. Set aside.

MAKING

6. FILLING: Wash, peel, and core apples (and pear). Cut apples and pear into medium slices.

7. Coat them with some flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix and stir.

8. Heat apples in a saucepan for not more than 10 minutes to caramelize.

9. Fill pie crusts with apples. Sprinkle some more cinnamon over them.

10. Weave each strip over the top of apples in a criss-cross pattern. Use a fork to flatten the edges.

11. Bake in oven for around 35 minutes or until golden-brown or fully cooked.

12. When done, take out of oven and let them cool completely on cooling racks.

SERVING

13. In a serving plate, slice the pie and serve as a dessert.
