I used to love having dirt pie around Halloween time when I was younger. I havent had it forever and I got a wild hair up my butt and decided that it was time to make this delectable Halloween treat for the first time in years. Most recipes when you look them up are instant-pudding, already made oreo crust, cool-whip topping. NO... I refuse. This pie is so easy to make completely from scratch and 1000 times better. You can do it. Lets get started.

Ingredients

For oreo crust
Oreos 30
Butter 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) , melted
For chocolate pudding
Sugar 3/4 Cup (12 tbs)
Unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Cornstarch 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Salt 1 Pinch
Egg yolks 4
Whole milk 2 1/2 Cup (40 tbs)
Butter 3 Tablespoon
Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon
Semi sweet chocolate 3 Ounce
For whipped cream
Heavy whipping cream 8 Ounce
Powdered sugar 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon

Directions

GETTING READY

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a Ziploc bag, add in the oreos and crush with a rolling pin.

MAKING

In a large bowl, add in the oreo crumbs; reserve 1 tablespoon for garnish.

Pour in melted butter to the bowl and mix together.

Put the mixture in the pie pan and press with hands firmly. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.

Take it out and let it cool.

For the pudding – In a pan over medium heat, add the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt. Mix completely and add in the egg yolks, whisking together until a paste is formed.

Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring continuously. Turn up the heat up to medium high and constantly stir until it comes up to a boil. Once it comes up to a boil, let it cook for about 30 seconds.

Pour the pudding into a bowl and add in the butter, vanilla extract, and chocolate. Stir well until everything is well combined. Let it cool.

Cover the pudding with a plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Add the pudding to the oreo crust and refrigerate for 3 hours or more.

Meanwhile, prepare the whipped cream. In a large bowl, whisk together heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.

FINALIZING

Top the pie with the whipped cream and remaining oreo crumbs. You can decorate the pie with jelly worms if you desire.

SERVING

Slice the pie and serve or dessert.
