Fig Nut Turnovers

Sugar 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Figs 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) , finely chopped
Chopped peeled apple 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Almonds 1 Cup (16 tbs) , chopped
Orange rind 1 Teaspoon , grated
Orange juice 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Cinnamon 1/4 Teaspoon
Mace 1/4 Teaspoon
Pastry 1



1) Preheat the oven to 425°F


2) Take a saucepan and add sugar, figs, apple, almonds, rind, liquid, cinnamon and mace. Mix well.

3) Place the saucepan over medium heat and simmer the mixture for about 5-6 minutes, until apples are tender and mixture turns thickens.

4) Allow the filling to cool at room temperature.

5) Now take the pastry and divide it into two equal portions.

6) On a floured board, roll out one half to a rectangle measuring 15×10 inch. Cut this rectangle into 5 inch squares.

7) Now, put about a tablespoon of filling on top of each square. Fold the squares carefully, to form small stuffed rectangles.

8) Use a fork to seal the edges of each rectangle and also to prick the tops of rectangles.

9) Lastly, place these on a cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven (425°F) for 12-15 minutes.


10) Allow the turnovers to cool down before serving.
