Learn how to make Gorditas! 'Gordita' roughly translates to "little fatty", which is a reference to their appearance -- and possibly your appearance as well if you eat too many!

Masa harina 2 Cup (32 tbs) (8 ounces by weight)
Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
Salt 1/8 Teaspoon
Vegetable oil 1 Tablespoon
Warm water 1 1/4 Cup (20 tbs)
Oil 1 Quart (For deep frying, corn or peanut)
For filling:
Cooked meat 1 Cup (16 tbs) , shredded or chopped
Refried beans 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Cheese 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Sour cream 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Chopped veggies 1 Cup (16 tbs) (Lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro)

In a large bowl, combine masa harina, baking powder, salt and mix well.

Add vegetable oil with 1 cup of water and stir well to combine. Mix to get a sticky dough and divide into 4 pieces.

Pat out each portion into 4-5” circle (1/2” thick).

Heat a skillet and cook the gorditas until both sides are lightly browned.

Heat oil to 360-375°F and deep fry the gorditas until done. Drain excess oil using paper towels.

Split open with knife and stuff with desired filling.

Serve and enjoy!
