Baklava is a layered pastry with nuts and honey syrup. Traditional for Easter in Greece, baklava is deliciously buttery and sweet and very unique!

Lemon zest | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Phyllo dough | 1/2 Pound , thawed | |
Melted butter | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) ((1/4 pound)) | |
Water | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Sugar | 6 Tablespoon | |
Lemon juice | 1 Tablespoon | |
Lemon rind strip/Orange rind | 2 Inch | |
Honey | 6 Tablespoon |
GETTING READY:
1.Preheat oven to 325F.
2.Line baking pan with parchment paper and grease with butter.
MAKING:
3.Transfer the nuts to a ziplock bag and pound as shown in the video.
4.Transfer to a bowl and add cinnamon, lemon zest, sugar, salt. Mix well.
5.Brush melted butter on baking pan and layer phyllo dough over it.
6.Layer with filling, phyllo dough and grease with butter as shown in the video.
7.Brush the top with melted butter and cut into small diamond shapes.
8.Pop into oven and bake for 30 minutes. Reduce temperature to and bake for another 45-60 minutes until golden.
9.For syrup, combine water, sugar, lemon juice, lemon rind in a pot. Heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Add honey and simmer for another 5 minutes.
10.Turn off heat and remove rinds.
11.Pour hot syrup over hot baklava. Refrigerate until serving if desired.
