Baklava probably isnt the first Thanksgiving Day dessert you think of when planning your menu, but why not? Were switching up the classic pecan pie with this delicious Mediterranean desserts. You will not disappoint your family..we promise.
Phyllo dough sheet | 20 | |
Butter stick | 2 , melted | |
Pecans | 12 Ounce , finely chopped | |
Cinnamon | 1 1/2 Tablespoon | |
Sugar | 2 Tablespoon | |
For syrup | ||
Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Honey | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Vanilla extract | 2 Teaspoon | |
Water | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) |
GETTING READY
1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F.
2. Grease a 9x13 baking pan with butter and set aside.
MAKING
3. In a bowl, combine pecan, cinnamon and sugar. Mix well and set aside.
4. Take two pieces of phyllo dough and place them at the bottom of the baking dish. Brush melted butter over top of the sheet and repeat the process two more times. (total of 6 phyllo dough sheets)
5. Sprinkle 1/4 of the pecan mixture over top of the phyllo dough. Then place 2 sheets of phyllo dough on top of the pecan mixture and brush melted butter. Sprinkle pecans and repeat the process 3 more times.
6. After placing the remaining pecans, finish with two pieces of phyllo dough. Brush melted butter over top and repeat the process two more times as in the bottom. (total of 6 phyllo dough sheets)
7. Using a sharp knife gently cut the baklava diagonally into diamond shape.
8. Pop in oven and bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
For Syrup:
9. In a saucepan, combine sugar, honey, vanilla extract and water. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and stir occasionally.
FINALIZING
10. Once baklava is done baking pour the syrup over top. Allow the syrup to soak into the dough for several hours.
SERVING
11. Serve and enjoy with a warm cup of tea!
