Homemade Ketchup

Lynn demonstrates how to make homemade ketchup. This is an easy and super delicious. This makes about 5 cups.


Vegetable oil 3 Tablespoon
Finely chopped onion 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Peeled and chopped ginger 1 Tablespoon
Garlic 4 Clove (20 gm) , minced
Mustard powder 1 Teaspoon
Ground allspice 1/2 Teaspoon
Cayenne powder 1/4 Teaspoon
Tomato paste 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Canned peeled tomatoes 28 Ounce
Bay leaves 2
Packed light brown sugar 2/3 Cup (10.67 tbs)
Apple cider vinegar 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Molasses 1 Tablespoon
Kosher salt 4 Teaspoon



1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil and add the onion. Cook for 5 minutes stirring occasionally, until soft and translucent.

2. Stir in the ginger, garlic, mustard powder, allspice and cayenne and cook, stirring for 1 minute.

3. Add in the tomato paste and cook for a minute. Add canned tomato and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon remove from the heat.

4. Puree the ketchup in batches in a blender until smooth return to the pot. Add cider vinegar, brown sugar, kosher salt, molasses, and bay leaves. Stir well.

5. Place the ketchup over the stove and simmer for 45 min – 60 min, until thick. Cool it and preserve in a jar.


6. Serve ketchup with potato fritters and enjoy!
