In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Versatile Pizza Sauce. This is a sauce that can be used for topping a pizza, or as a sauce for any kind of pasta, or as a dipping sauce for breadsticks.
Extra virgin olive oil | 1 1/2 Tablespoon
Chopped green pepper | 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Chopped onion | 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Garlic cloves | 3 , minced
Canned diced tomatoes | 56 Ounce , drained (Save juice, in case you want to thin the sauce)
Dried oregano | 4 Teaspoon
Dried basil | 4 Teaspoon | |
Dried parsley | 4 Teaspoon
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon (or to taste)
Fresh ground black peppercorn | 1/2 Teaspoon
Sugar | 1 Tablespoon (Optional) |
MAKING
1. Place a large deep skillet over low to medium heat, saute green pepper, onion, and garlic in olive oil until softened. Remove the skillet from heat and let cool for 2 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in blender, place drained tomato, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, black pepper and sugar (optional).
3. Add sauteed vegetables into the blender and blend until pureed.
4. Into the same large skillet, transfer the pureed mixture and bring to a boil over low heat. Stir occasionally and simmer, covered for 30-60 minutes or until the mixture thickens into a sauce.
SERVING
5. Serve sauce immediately over pasta or with bread sticks. It can also be used as a pizza topping.
