A typical Calzone somewhat resembles a folded pizza or turnover being shaped like a half-moon. In the US, these are characteristically made using pizza dough and stuffed with varieties of meats, cheese, and/or vegetables. In Italy, calzones are filled with ingredients similar to the pizza. Fried versions are usually filled with tomato and mozzarella cheese. These sandwich-sized snacks are often sold at road side Italian lunch counters or by street vendors since they are quite easy to carry and eat when one is travelling or on the move.
