High Protein Mozzarella Pesto Strata

Italian food on your mind... yet looking for something different...? Your search ends right here. Try this delectable cheese laden strata, complete with garlic basil pesto, tangy olives and sweet spicy roasted red peppers, baked to perfection.


Whole wheat french bread slice 16
Garlic and basil pesto 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Sliced ripe olive 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Roasted red bell peppers 1 Cup (16 tbs) , sliced
Low fat mozzarella cheese 8 Ounce , shredded
Egg whites 8
Skimmed milk 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs)
Salt To Taste
White pepper powder To Taste
Low sodium parmesan cheese 2 Tablespoon (freshly shredded)
Fresh herbs 1 Teaspoon , finely chopped



1. Grease the baking dish on the insides.

2. Apply garlic basil pesto on 1 side of the bread slices and arrange as the first layer at the bottom of the baking dish. The pesto sides must face upwards and if needed you might have to cut some slices to fit.

3. Spread the sliced olives, followed by sliced bell peppers and finally the shredded mozzarella cheese.

4. In a bowl, beat egg whites,then add in milk, salt and pepper and whisk together until well blended. Pour this mixture evenly over the cheese in the baking dish.

5. Lastly, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs on top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

6. Set the oven to preheat at 325ºF. Once ready, bake uncovered for 55 to 60 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean and top is a nice rich golden brown.

7. Allow standing time of about 5 minutes before cutting.


8. The Mozzarella Pesto Strata tastes best served hot, along with spicy tomato sauce.
