Green Dal Fry

Bored of the simple dal fry recipe? here's a variation you'll be tempted to try out. Moong and toovar dal are boiled together and then cooked with a wonderful fresh paste of coriander, coconut, ginger, chillies and more. Your family will relish the different taste.


Toovar dal 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Split yellow gram 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Turmeric powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Oil 2 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste , divided
Water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Hot water 3/4 Cup (12 tbs)
For green paste
Roughly chopped coriander 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Thinly sliced onions 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Freshly grated coconut 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Green chilies 4 , chopped
Chopped ginger 1/2 Teaspoon
Garlic cloves 4
Lemon juice 1 Teaspoon
Water 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)



1. Soak toovar dal and split yellow gram in water for 35 to 40 minutes.


2. In a pressure cooker, pour in water, add the soaked dals, turmeric and salt, stir to mix, pressure cook for 3 whistles.

3. Blend together coriander leaves, onion, coconut, green chilies, ginger, garlic and lemon juice to a smooth paste using water.

4. In a frying pan heat oil, add in the green paste, cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Add in the cooked dal and hot water, mix well. Add salt and allow to cook for 3 to 4 minutes, add more water if required.


5. Serve hot with rice.
