Moong Dal and Paneer Chila by Tarla Dalal

Give the biscuits a pass this tea-time. . . And opt for this easy-to-make and extremely healthy snack instead!


Yellow moong dal 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) , soaked for 3 to 4 hours
Salt To Taste
Asafoetida 1 Pinch (hing)
Sugar 2 Pinch
Green chilli paste 1 1/2 Teaspoon
Crumbled paneer 8 Tablespoon (low fat cottage cheese)
Finely chopped coriander 4 Tablespoon
Chaat masala 1 Teaspoon
Bengal gram flour 1 Tablespoon (optional)
Oil 2 1/4 Teaspoon
Water 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)



1. In a mixer, combine moong dal with water and blend to form a smooth paste. Transfer to a bowl and mix in salt, asafoetida, sugar, and green chilli paste.


2. In a non-stick tava (griddle), add ¼ teaspoon of oil and when hot pour a ladle full of batter and spread it in an even manner to make a thin round of around 4 inches.

3. Now sprinkle 2 tablespoons of paneer, 1 tablespoon of coriander and ¼ teaspoon of chaat masala. Cook on both sides until golden brown using ½ teaspoon of oil.

4. Repeat the above steps to make three more chilas.


5. Serve the chilas hot.
