Aloo Mutter (Alu Mutter)

Aloo Mutter ia a vegetable where potato and peas are cooked together with a few spices to impart a subtle and distinctive flavour.


Boiled potato 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs) , peeled and cubed
Boiled peas 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Cumin seeds 1/2 Teaspoon
Onion 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) , chopped
Ginger 1 Teaspoon , finely chopped
Green chili paste 1 Teaspoon
Garlic 1/2 Teaspoon , finely chopped
Tomatoes 1 Cup (16 tbs) , chopped
Turmeric powder 1 Pinch
Chili powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Garam masala 1/2 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Oil 2 Tablespoon
For garnish
Coriander 1 Tablespoon , finely chopped



1. In a pan, heat the oil and add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle. Add the onions and sauté until translucent.

2. Add the garlic, ginger, green chili paste and tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are done. Mash lightly using a potato masher, add water (1 tablespoon).

3. Add in the peas, potatoes, salt, chili powder, garam masala and cook for 3 - 4 minutes.

4. Add water (1 cup) and allow to boil. Mash 2 to 3 pieces of potatoes in the pan to thicken the gravy. Simmer until the gravy is thick.


6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis or parathas.
