Spicy Tava Idlis by Tarla Dalal

A spicy recipe made by using leftover idlis, it is a great combination made with onions, tomatoes and masalas. Definitely worth a try!


Leftover idli 8 , cut into cubes
Butter 1 Tablespoon
Garlic paste 1/2 Teaspoon
Finely chopped onions 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Finely chopped tomatoes 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Turmeric powder 1/4 Teaspoon
Chili powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Pav bhaji masala 1 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Lemon juice 1 Teaspoon
Finely chopped coriander 2 Tablespoon (dhania)
Water 2 Tablespoon
For the garnish



1. In a non-stick pan, add butter, and when hot, add garlic paste and sauté for half a minute, before adding onions and sautéing for a couple of minutes until onions are translucent.

2. Now add tomatoes, cook for a minute or two, while stirring intermittently. Then add turmeric powder, chili powder, and pav bhaji masala. Mix properly and sauté for a minute, before adding 2 tablespoons of water and salt.

3. Sauté for a minute and add lemon juice and coriander. Cook for a minute, while stirring continuously.

4. Now add idlis, toss gently and cook for a minute or two, while stirring intermittently.


5. Serve the idlis hot garnished with coriander.
