A simple yet hearty dal with the goodness of fresh crunchy cucumber! A quick-to-dole-out recipe! So, if you are late from work and craving for some piping hot dal, try this one out. It wont disappoint!

Split bengal gram 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) (chana dal)
Oil 1 Tablespoon
Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon (jeera)
Chopped cucumber 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Turmeric powder 1 Pinch (haldi)
Ginger green chilli paste
Salt To Taste
Chili powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Sugar 1 Pinch
Water 2 Cup (32 tbs)
For the garnish
Finely chopped coriander 1 Tablespoon

1. Soak the chana dal in water, after washing it properly, for at least an hour and drain well.

2. Now take a pressure cooker, and combine chana dal with two cups of water. Pressure cook for two whistles. Open the cooker lid after the steam escapes out completely and mash the dal lightly using a spoon. Keep aside.

3. In a broad non-stick pan, add oil and when hot, add cumin seeds. As soon as the seeds start crackling, add dal, cucumber, ginger-green chili paste, turmeric powder, salt, and chili powder. Mix properly and cook for 5 - 7 minutes, while stirring intermittently.

4. Now add sugar, mix properly, and cook for a minute.

5. Serve the dal hot after garnishing with coriander.
