Upma is one of the most common breakfast items, all over India. It is a quick preparation using common ingredients, and so it can be made without much ado. Plus, you can also make it healthier by adding a lot of boiled veggies like carrots, beans, potatoes, tomatoes and peas along with the semolina when cooking. Serve hot in an inverted cup shape, as suggested.

Semolina 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Oil 1 1/2 Tablespoon
Mustard seeds 1/2 Teaspoon

Curry leaves 4
Slit green chilies 2
Finely chopped onion 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Salt To Taste

1. In a skillet, dry roast semolina over medium flame for 4-5 minutes. Set aside.

2. In a skillet, heat oil and add the mustard seeds. Allow the mustard to splutter.

4.Stir in roasted semolina, pour 3 cups of hot water and season with salt. Mix well, cover with a lid and cook over low flame for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
