There are many variation of this South Indian delicacy. In this video Bikramjit is showing us how to make tomato flavored rasam. The dish tastes great when served with hot rice.

GETTING READY
1. Pressure cook red gram lentil with 1 ½ cups water for 10 minutes and set it aside.
MAKING
2. In a pan, heat vegetable oil and add mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
3. Add cumin seeds, dried chilies, ginger, garlic paste, tomato, and curry leaves.
4. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, water, asafetida, and salt to taste. Let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, then add cooked lentil and water (1½ cups). Bring this to boil.
SERVING
5. Serve hot.
