Creamy Dal Makhni

Dal Makhni is a famous dish of North India, which is often served in marriages, engagements, birthdays or any special occasion. Nowadays you can find this on menu of different restaurants irrespective of North India or South India.


Whole black lentils 3/4 Cup (12 tbs)
Red kidney beans 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Water 4 Cup (64 tbs)
Onion 1 , finely chopped
Ginger garlic paste
Green chili 1 Teaspoon , finely chopped
Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon
Garam masala powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Red chili powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Turmeric powder 1/4 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
White butter 2 Tablespoon
Tomato puree 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)



1. In a large pot, soak the lentils and kidney beans overnight.


2. In a pressure cooker, add in all the ingredients. Pressure cook for 10-11 whistles on low heat.

3. Open the cooker and let the lentils simmer in the cooker for 10-15 minutes.


4. Garnish the dal makhni with fresh cream if you desire and serve with hot rotis, naan, or rice.
