Gujjia - Healthier Than You Think

Gujia is a traditional Indian sweet dish that is commonly made in households on the occasion of Holi, Diwali and other festivals. It is akin to a sweet samosa, but is somewhat flat, moon shaped with a crunchy exterior encompassing a sweet stuffing.


Whole wheat flour 400 Gram
Sunflower oil 4 Tablespoon
Water 200 Milliliter
Low sodium cottage cheese 800 Gram , shredded
Raisin 5 Tablespoon
Almonds 200 Gram , finely sliced
Skimmed milk 1 Tablespoon
Cooking oil spray 5 , sprays
Stevia powder 4 Tablespoon (Leveled)



1. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees F.


2.In a bowl, mix three tablespoons of oil with flour. Mix thoroughly, using fingers, so that the mixture binds to a certain extent and starts taking the form of breadcrumbs.

3. Now add some water and knead lightly. Keep adding water as required and knead into a soft dough. Set aside covered with a damp cloth.

4. In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon oil and fry the shredded paneer to a light golden brown colour.

5. To this add stevia and mix well.

6. Add sliced almonds and kismis. Add the milk and mix well so as to make a moist filling.

7. After a few more minutes, remove from the fire and let it cool.

8. Roll out the kneaded dough into a chapati, thicker and smaller than a normal chapati.

9. Fill half the chapati with the paneer mixture, fold the chapati and seal the round, twisting the edges inwards, taking care that the filling does not ooze out.

10. Grease the baking tray using cooking oil spray and place the prepared gujias keeping enough space between them. Spray on top of the gujias again before placing in the oven.

11. Bake in the pre-heated oven at 400 F, for about 20 minutes turning over once in between, till they develop a golden brown crusty surface.


12. These can be served hot once they are ready or can be cooled and stored in an airtight glass jar.
