Homemade Tadke Wali Dal

Chana dal is high in protein and here is a simple and easy preparation great with paratha, plain roti or steamed rice.


Oil 1 Tablespoon
Cumin seed 1 Teaspoon
Onion 1 , chopped finely
Chopped garilc 1/2 Teaspoon
Tomato 1 , finely chopped
Finely chopped ginger 1 Tablespoon
Coriander powder 1 1/2 Tablespoon
Red chili powder 1 Teaspoon (or to taste)
Turmeric powder 1 Teaspoon
Garam masala 1 Teaspoon
Chana dal 1 Cup (16 tbs) , boiled
Chopped green chili 1 Teaspoon (more or less to taste)
Water 1 Cup (16 tbs) (as needed)
Salt To Taste
For tadka
Ghee 2 Tablespoon
Red chili 2 Tablespoon
Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon
For garnish
Chopped coriander leaves 1 Tablespoon



1. In a pan heat oil and add cumin. Fry until golden brown.

2. Saute onion and garlic in oil until soft.

3. Add tomato, cook well and then stir in ginger, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Cook for a couple of minutes.

4. Add boiled chana dal, and green chili to taste.

5. Pour water and season with salt. Boil to get desired consistency. Transfer it to a bowl.

For Tadka:

6. In a pan, heat ghee and splutter cumin in it. Add red chili in hot oil.


7. Pour tadka on top of dal.


8. Serve dal hot with garnished with coriander leaves.
