Healthy Baked Masala Vada

A classic south Indian snack, masala vada is an all time favorite. It is protein rich due to the goodness of chana dal and is very easy to make. A baked version makes it much healthier without compromising on the taste.


Besan flour 2 Tablespoon
Chana dal 200 Gram
Cinnamon stick 3
Whole red chili 3
Curry leaves 1 Tablespoon (chopped finely)
Spinach leaves 1 Bunch (100 gm) (boiled and chopped)
Green chili 1 Tablespoon (chopped finely)
Cumin seeds 1 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Oil spray To Taste
Onion 1 Medium (chopped finely)



1. Soak chana dal for at least 40 to 45 minutes.

2. In a blender, add cinnamon, red chili and cumin, add soaked channa dal, and coarsely blend them together to make a thick paste.


3. Add rest of the ingredients to the mixture and mix well. Add gram flour if required for binding.

4. Make small flat balls of the chana dal paste and place inside an oven that has been pre heated to 250°C.

5. Bake the vadas for 25 minutes till they are golden brown and crunchy.


Serve hot with your favorite chutney.
