Vendakka Kichadi

Vendakka kichadi is a thottucurry or side dish served during Vishu and Onam feasts. It is prepared using lady finger, coconut paste and curd.


Ladys finger 8 Medium , sliced
Green chillies 3 Large , chopped nicely
Yogurt 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Curry leaves 3 Teaspoon
Salt 1/4 Teaspoon
Coconut 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) , grated
Mustard seeds 1 Teaspoon
Dry red chilies 3 Medium
Coconut oil 2 Tablespoon



1. In a mixer, grind coconut, curd and 1 tsp mustard seeds to a fine paste.


2. In a skillet, heat 2 tbsp oil and crackle mustard seeds. Add sliced okra, green chilies, and red chilies along with curry leaves. Fry this mixture until okra gets browned.

3. Add coconut –curd paste and simmer for 10 minutes.


4. Serve this rich vendakka kichadi with steaming hot rice.
