How to Make Mutton Biryani

Here's a simple yet delicious recipe to make mutton biryani.


Basmati rice 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs) , soaked in water for 40 minutes
Mutton 250 Gram
Bay leaf 1
Turmeric powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Cumin powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Coriander powder 1 Teaspoon
Red chili powder 1 Teaspoon
Black pepper To Taste
Salt To Taste
Mace 1/4 Teaspoon
Cloves 4
Cardamom 4
Garam masala 1 Teaspoon
Lemon 1/2
Green chili 1 , chopped
Cinnamon stick 1 Small
Coriander leaves 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Mint leaves 2 Tablespoon
Fried onions 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Yogurt 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Vegetable oil 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Ginger garlic paste 1 Tablespoon
Food color 10 Drop
Raw papaya 1 Tablespoon , mashed
For the rice
Oil 1 Tablespoon
Cardamom 2
Cloves 2
Cumin seeds 1/4 Teaspoon
Salt 1 Pinch



1. In a large bowl combine mutton, yogurt, ginger garlic paste, mashed raw papaya, all the spices, coriander, mint leaves, oil and mix well. Squeeze in the lemon and mix well.

2. Transfer the mutton into a pan and add fried onions to it. Mix well and set aside.


3. In a pot, bring water to a boil. Add oil, cardamoms, cloves, cumin seeds and salt to it. Add in the rice and allow to cook.

4. Drain the rice and layer the cooked rice over the mutton as shown in the video.

5. Sprinkle the food color over the rice followed by fried onion.

6. Cover the lid tightly and seal with some dough. Allow to cook on low heat for about 40 minutes.


7. Serve garnished with mint leaves.
