Learn How To Make Indian Tacos, aka Navajo tacos! Homemade Indian frybread, Oklahoma-style.
For frybread: | ||
All purpose flour | 2 1/4 Cup (36 tbs) , divided | |
Baking powder | 2 Teaspoon | |
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Milk | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Water | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Oil | 2 Cup (32 tbs) (For deep frying) | |
For taco: | ||
Cooked pinto beans | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
Shredded cheese | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
Chopped veggies | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) (lettuce, tomato, onion) | |
Pickled jalapenos | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
Hot sauce | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
Taco meat | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) |
MAKING:
In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and mix well.
In another bowl, combine milk and water.
Add milk mixture to flour mixture and mix well to get dough.
Shape the dough into cylinder and cut into 4 pieces.
Pat each piece into a circle.
Heat oil to 350°F and fry the breads for about 2 minutes each side.
Drain excess oil and top with beans, meat, cheese and any vegetables.
