Split Pea And Ham Soup - How To Use Left Over Ham After The Holidays

So I had some left over ham and decided to do a split pea and ham soup.
This dish is simple to make with limited ingredients.

Ingredients

Diced celery 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Diced onion 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Garlic cloves 4 , chopped finely
Cooked ham 2 Cup (32 tbs) , diced
Chicken stock 1 Quart
Split peas 1 Pound , cleaned
Butter 1 Tablespoon
Salt 1 Pinch
Freshly ground black pepper To Taste
Ham bone 1
Bay leaf 1

Directions

MAKING

1. Place a soup pot on medium low heat, and melt butter.

2. Add in all the vegetables, and stir in salt and pepper.

3. Let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the onion gets translucent.

4. Add the bay leaf, ham, peas, ham bone and chicken stock, and let it simmer on medium low for 1 to 1 ½ hour or until the peas break down.

5. Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning, if needed.

SERVING

6. After 1 ½ hour remove the ham bone and serve hot as desired.
