What is not to love about onion rings? Fried, salty and the perfect vehicle for a variety of condiments. Every time I partake I think about what other wonders would be great in this format. Apples are always my first thought. So here you go, fried apple rings for your enjoyment. Perfect for your next football gathering or just because!
Eggs | 1 Large | |
Buttermilk | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
All purpose flour | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Baking powder | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Granny smith apples | 4 Large | |
Canola oil | 2 Cup (32 tbs) (For deep frying) | |
Sea salt | To Taste |
GETTING READY
1. In a bowl, put together flour, baking powder and salt, set aside.
2. In another bowl, put the egg and whisk well.
3. Add in buttermilk and whisk to combine and set aside.
4. Using a sharp knife, cut the apples in slices, core the center of each slice using apple corer.
5. Using a cookie cutter, cut each apple slice to make more rings.
MAKING
6. In a pan over medium heat , put oil and bring it up to 365 F.
7. Pour the buttermilk mixture into flour mixture and whisk well to make a smooth batter.
8. Dip each apple ring in batter, tap on sides of bowl to remove excess batter and fry in hot oil for about 2 minutes on both sides or until golden brown colour.
9. Using tong or slotted spoon remove the apple ring and drain on a wire rack.
SERVING
10. Serve hot as desired.
