Asparagus and Ham au Gratin

Butter/Margarine 2 Ounce (60 Grams)
Plain flour 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Dry mustard 1/4 Teaspoon
Salt 1/4 Teaspoon
Cayenne pepper 1 Pinch
Milk 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Cooked ham 1 Cup (16 tbs) , chopped
Soft white breadcrumbs 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Canned asparagus 8 Ounce (1 Medium Can)
Cheese 1 Cup (16 tbs) , shredded



1) Preheat the oven to 350°F.


2) In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the flour, mustard, salt and pepper.

3) Stir until smooth, then cook for 1 minute without browning.

4) Pour in the milk and stir until the sauce comes to a boil and thickens.

5) Remove from heat, stir in the ham and mix thoroughly.

6) In a greased casserole dish, spread 1 cup breadcrumbs at the bottom.

7) Add 1/2 the drained asparagus, 1/2 shredded cheese and rest of the asparagus.

8) Cover with the creamed ham, sprinkle rest of the breadcrumbs then top with the rest of the shredded cheese.

9) Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until the sauce is bubbly and lightly browned on top.


10) Serve the Asparagus Ham au Gratin straight from the casserole.
