Irish Soda Bread

This quick bread loaf is the perfect companion to a hearty stew...


Whole wheat flour 230 Gram (1 1/2 cups)
All purpose flour 330 Gram (2 cups)
Wheat bran 45 Gram (1/2 cup)
Baking soda 6 Milliliter (1 1/4 teaspoon)
Salt 1 Teaspoon
Sugar 75 Milliliter (1/3 cup)
Buttermilk 500 Milliliter (2 cups)



1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F or 180 degree C.

2. Grease and flour a bread pan. You can use metal or clay.


3. In a mixing bowl combine flour, whole wheat flour, bran, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.

4. Pour buttermilk and mix to get gooey dough.

5. Into the prepared bread pan, transfer the dough. Spread evenly.

6. Pop the pan in the oven and bake for about an hour. Remove pan from oven and place bread on a cooling rack to cool.


7. Cut into slices and serve with hot stew.
