Anyway this simple cake recipe comes from the depths of the great depression cooking, but it comes from an extravagant depression era cookbook. This apple cake recipe was part of a GE refrigerator promo cookbook from 1932.

Sugar | 2/3 Cup (10.67 tbs) | |

Flour | 2 1/4 Cup (36 tbs) | |
Baking powder | 3 Teaspoon | |
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Milk | 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) | |
Vanilla | 1 Teaspoon | |
For topping: | ||
Apple | 1 | |
Sugar | 1 Tablespoon | |
Cinnamon | 1 Teaspoon | |
Butter | 1 Tablespoon |
MAKING:
1. Preheat a moderate oven (350ºF).
2. Cream the butter, add sugar gradually.
3. Add beaten eggs and mix well.
4. Mix and sift flour, baking powder, and salt and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
5. Add vanilla and beat lightly.
6. Pour into greased 8”x8” pan and arrange thinly sliced apples on top of batter.
7. Bake about forty to forty five minutes.
