1943 Sour Cream Raisin Pie Recipe - Old Cookbook Show

Depending on where you are from, this pie seems to have a number of different names: Amish funeral pie, Funeral pie are a couple of names. Some have likened this to a Yorkshire curd tart, or a Nova Scotia Cream tart. What do you call it?

Ingredients

Seeded raisins 1 Cup (16 tbs) (floured)
Sour cream 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Egg 1 , beaten
All spice berry 1 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
For pie crust
All purpose flour 345 Gram (2½ cup)
Sugar 1 Tablespoon (15 ml)
Salt 3/4 Tablespoon (3 ml)
Chilled butter 240 Gram (1 cup, cut into ½" cubes)
Ice water 6 Tablespoon (90 ml)

Directions

GETTING READY:

1. Preheat oven to 425ºF.

MAKING:

2. Mix all ingredients together and pour into an unbaked 9” shallow pie shell.

3. Bake at 425ºF for 15 minutes, then reduce temp to 325ºF and bake 30-40 minutes more, or until center is just jiggly.

4. Remove from oven and cool on a rack before serving.
