This 1939 Health Biscuits Recipe - isn't 'healthy' in the way we might think of healthy today. It's more of an energy cookie packed with sugar and fat it'll get you over that mid afternoon hump when you're out in the field bailing hay. Or before you head to the barn for the 4:30am milking. Probably not great for snacking on the couch but they sure are tasty and that's we did.

Butter | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Shortening | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Soda | 1 Teaspoon | |
Chopped dates | 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) | |
Chopped walnuts | 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) | |
Raisins | 3/4 Cup (12 tbs) | |
Rolled oats | 2 Cup (32 tbs) | |
Whole wheat flour | 2 Cup (32 tbs) | |
Salt | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Sour milk | 1 Cup (16 tbs) (or as needed) |
GETTING READY:
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
MAKING:
2. Mix ingredients with enough sour milk to hold together and drop on buttered pan.

NOTES:
I used kefir, but buttermilk is what they mean in the recipe by sour milk. I didn't measure, but it felt like ¾ - 1 cup of kefir.
