Butter | 2 Tablespoon (30 mL) | |
Diced onions | 2 Cup (32 tbs) (500 mL) | |
Shallots | 4 | |
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon (2 mL) | |
Balsamic vinegar | 2 Tablespoon (30 mL) | |
White pepper | 1/2 Teaspoon (2 mL) | |
Cayenne pepper | 1/2 Teaspoon (2 mL) | |
Cream cheese | 4 Ounce (120g) | |
Sour cream | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) (125 mL) | |
Onion powder | 1/2 Teaspoon (2 mL) | |
Garlic powder | 1/4 Teaspoon (1 mL) |
MAKING:
1.Melt the butter in a fry pan over medium heat.
2.Add the onions, shallots, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
3.Cook for 5 minutes, stirring.
4.Then reduce the heat to medium low and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5.Add the balsamic vinegar and reduce.
6.Remove from stove and allow to cool.
7.Cream the cream cheese in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer.
8.Add the sour cream, garlic powder and onion powder and cream until lump free.
9.Add the cooled and caramelised onions.
10.Mix until just combined.
11.Refrigerate over night to really let the flavours meld or eat it right away.
