Steak And Ale Pies

Simple and easy, yet savory and delicious, this Steak and Ale Pie recipe is perfect for nights when multitasking is a must!


Stewing steak 500 Gram , dice
Onion 1 Large , dice
Beef dripping 25 Gram
Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm) , peeled
Bay leaf 1
Star anise 2 Small
Tomato puree 1 Tablespoon
Dark ale 250 Milliliter
Cold water 250 Milliliter
Oxo beef cubes 1
Salt To Taste
Black pepper To Taste
Ready rolled puff pastry sheet 1/2
Egg 1 , beaten



1.In a heavy saucepan, heat drippings over medium heat.

2.Add onions, salt and cook until soft.

3.Add beef and cook until browned.

4.Add bay leaf, garlic, star anise, black pepper, tomato puree and stir well.

5.Add ale, oxo cube, water and bring the ingredients to simmer for 2 hours.

6.When the sauce turns thick and meat becomes tender, remove the saucepan from heat and allow to cool completely.

7.Preheat the oven to 200C.

8.Cut pastry sheets as shown in the video.

9.Fill pie dishes with prepared filling and cover with pastry.

10.Make 3 slits and brush with beaten egg.

11.Pop into oven and bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.


12.Serve with gravy or mashed vegetables and enjoy!
