Tomato mutton masala curry

The tomato mutton curry is inspired from the telangana curries, which are mostly spicy and masala based.Don't get bogged down by the long list of ingredients, cause its one of the easiest and tasty mutton curries i've come across till date.Try it,if you love spicy food!!


For masala
Grated dry coconut 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Poppy seed 2 Teaspoon , roasted
Coriander powder 1 Teaspoon
Cinnamon stick 1 Inch
Cloves 4
Cardamom 3
Tomatoes 4 Large
Tamarind 5 Gram
Other ingredients
Oil 4 Tablespoon
Onion 3 Medium , slice
Green chiles 2
Ginger garlic paste 1 Teaspoon
Mutton 1/2 Kilogram
Tumeric powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Chili powder 1 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Water 2 Cup (32 tbs) (more or less as needed)
Coriander leaves 1 Teaspoon




1. In a grinder, add grated dry coconut, poppy seeds, coriander powder, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom, tomatoes and tamarind. Grind all the ingredients to a fine paste.



2. Take a pressure cooker, add oil and heat it

3. Add the sliced onions, green chilies and ginger garlic paste and saute till it turns light brown.

4. Add mutton, turmeric powder, chili powder and salt. Give it a good stir and cook for 2- 3 minutes.

5. Pour water and pressure cook till the meat is tender. (approx – 4 whistles)

6. Once it cools add the masala to the meat. Stir it well and pressure cook it again for 1 whistle.


7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve this yummy mutton curry with hot rice or rotis.
