1938 Depression Era Meat Loaf Recipe

This 1938 Depression Era Meat Loaf Recipe is a snapshot into the lives of a rural Ontario Canada community. The recipe is for a simple basic meatloaf recipe that uses tomato soup.


Hamburger steaks 1 Kilogram (about 2 lbs)
Ground pork 500 Gram
Eggs 2
Milk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Soda biscuits 6 (rolled fine)
Poultry seasoning 1 Teaspoon
Salt 1 1/2 Teaspoon
Cream of tomato soup 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)
Ground pepper 1 Teaspoon
Onions 2 (cut fine)



1. Preheat your Moderate oven to 350 degrees F.


2. Mix well and shape into a loaf.

3. Pour ¼ cup cream of tomato soup over it, and bake 1 ½ hour.


4. Serve and enjoy!
