How to Make Candy Cane Sugar Cookies

Unbleached flour 1 1/2 Cup (24 tbs)
Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
Fine salt 1/4 Teaspoon
Unsalted butter 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) , softened
Brown sugar 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
White sugar 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Almond extract 1 1/2 Teaspoon (vanilla or peppermint)
Eggs 1 (at room temperature)
Red food color 1 Tablespoon (in half the dough)



1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a cookie sheet with silpat and set aside.


2. In the first bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In the second bowl, cream together butter and both the sugars.

4. Add in the almond extract and egg.

5. Mix flour mixture and butter mixture together to form dough.

6. Divide the dough evenly and add the red color to half the dough.

7. Gather it in some plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.

8. Tear off even strips from the white and red dough and roll into ropes with the palm of your hands.

9. Push the two ropes together and twist, making a crook of the neck to create the candy cane shape.

10. Bake for 15 – 20 minutes.


11. Serve with tea or coffee.
