In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Painted Christmas Sugar Cookies. These are great, buttery cookies that are fun to make and paint with children.
Butter | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Confectioners sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Eggs | 1 | |
Vanilla extract | 1 Teaspoon | |
All purpose flour | 2 1/2 Cup (40 tbs) | |
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
For painting sauce | ||
Egg yolks | 2 | |
Water | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Food colors | 1/4 Teaspoon (gel food coloring as needed) |
GETTING READY
1. Preheat oven to 375 degree F.
MAKING
2. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well.
3. In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix and gradually add it into the bowl with butter mixture. Mix until combined. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and pop in refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
4. Cut the chilled dough into 2 equal parts. Place one half back into the refrigerator while you work on the other.
5. On floured surface, roll the dough into 1/8-inch thick sheet. Cut into shapes using cookie cutter and place on an ungreased baking pan.
For Paint:
6. In a bowl, beat egg yolks with water and then divide the mixture into two equal portions. Add gel food color into each and mix well.
7. Paint the cookies with the color (as desired) and pop in oven. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.
8. Remove cookies from oven and let them cool on wire rack.
SERVING
9. Serve and enjoy!
