Betty demonstrates how to make Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies to serve at Christmas parties and get-togethers. These are great holiday treats!
Butter | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |

Vanilla extract | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
All | purpose flour | |
Cocoa powder | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon , divided | |
Baking powder | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Baking soda | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Drained maraschino cherries | 24 | |
Semisweet chocolate chips | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Sweetened condensed milk | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Maraschino cherry juice | 1 1/2 Teaspoon |
Making
In a large bowl, mix butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla.
Then add flour, cocoa powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Blend well.
Dough will be stiff. Shape into 1-inch balls.
Place the balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Push one maraschino cherry halfway into each ball.
When all cookies are shaped, prepare frosting and use immediately. For frosting, melt semisweet chocolate chips along with sweetened condensed milk, and then stir in ¼ teaspoon salt and maraschino cherry juice.
Spread ½ teaspoon frosting over each cherry. Bake at 350 degrees (F) for 8 to 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool.
Serving
Transfer to nice serving plate.
