With longer days and brighter mornings among us, giving your morning routine a spring lift is as simple as adding fresh berry compote to your traditional rolled oats. Making a batch of mixed berry compote takes less time that you may think and is a great way to add something extra special to an ordinary breakfast dish or pudding. And while the California Giant berry harvest is available year round, the spring harvest is the largest, so there is an abundance of exceptionally sweet and nice sized berries in the spring. While the ingredients call for a cup of each berry variety you can use any combination of berries for this recipe.

Raspberries 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Blueberries 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Strawberries 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Blackberries 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Sugar 4 Tablespoon
Orange 1 , squeezed
Semi sweet chocolate 2 Tablespoon , grated

1. In a deep sauce pan, add the berries, sugar and orange juice, allowing them to simmer on medium heat until the blend gets thick and juicy.

2. Remove from heat and grate chocolate into the blend. Stir well before chilling.

3. Use it to complement desserts.
